prerequisites for au pairs

age	18 - 24 hence it is not possible to submit an application for a residence permit shortly before the applicant turns 25.
language skills	Minimum language skills are not defined to get an au pair visa.
education	There are no prerequisites regarding the school education or if the au pair needs to hold any special degrees.
marital status	No official restriction.
children	There are no offical rules defining if the au pair is allowed to have children on his/her own or can be accompanied by them.

prerequisites for families

definition of family	According to The Icelandic Directorate of Immigration a family consist of a married couple or cohabiting partners with a child or children, or a single parent with a child or children.
citizenship of family	If the host family consists of persons who are not Icelandic citizens, at least one of the persons in a marriage or a cohabiting partner must be in possession of a permanent residence permit.

other restrictions	An applicant who needs a visa may not stay in Iceland when applying for the permit and while it is being processed. The host family must prove sufficient support. A host family must prove maintenance for their au pair. The additional maintenance is based on 50% of the minimum maintenance for an individual, i.e. ISK 90,275 per month plus the wage costs for the au pair, ISK 60,000 for every four weeks in au pair service.
