The au pair must be over the age of 18 and not have turned 30.

Basic knowledge (equivalent to at least Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) of Norwegian or English.

Minimum language skills are not defined to get a working holiday visa.

There are no prerequisites regarding the school education or if the au pair needs to hold any special degrees.

No restrictions.

The au pair cannot have any children of his or her own.

According to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration;

The host family can be a married couple, partners or cohabitants with or without children, or a single parent with children

The host family must speak Norwegian with the au pair.

It's not mandatory to involve an au pair agency.

According to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration;

The host parent’s country of origin cannot be the same as the au pair’s country of origin. In some cases the UDI may make an exception to this rule. None of the host parents can be the au pair’s parent, child, sibling, cousin, brother/sister-in-law or uncle/aunt. Nor can the au pair be engaged or married to one of the host parents.

• At least one of the parents in families who wish to have an au pair, must complete an e-learning course. More information can be found here.
• The host family must ensure that the au pair take the mandatory tuberculosis test as soon as he/she arrives in Norway.

It is not possible to work for the same employer for more than six months.
