Hi, I would like to find out, if anyone has ever found a host family here! I'm beginning to think I'm in the wrong place!
Were the same.
we've already found several au pairs here, but due to all the travel restrictions we also had to wait from February until now before our new au pair will finally be able to travel here beginning of January.
So yes, there are definitely au pairs who found host families here.
Three years ago we had an au pair from Kenya, and to get the visa for her took us half a year, so we had to look for another au pair in the meantime. When we were searching for a new au pair a year ago, we decided for a girl from Cameroon, although we needed her to start in one month, as she said it's easy for her to quickly get a visa. Turned out this was just wishful thinking and she didn't even get an appointment for the next months, so we had to look for another au pair.
I've read from other families who had same experiences with the visa for an au pair from Africa, this is why many families refrain from inviting an au pair from Africa, which is a pity, because we really had a very good experience with our au pair from Kenya.
Therefore my recommendation would be that you look for families who search for an au pair to start minimum 6 months from now, assure them that you are aware of the difficulties to get a visa and will do everything to have the visa at least 1 month before you start so that in case your visa is rejected (which also happens) they still have time to look for another au pair.
I cross my fingers for you, that you soon find a matching family!
