my au pair story

Why many Host Family didn't accept Male Aupair?

Hi Good Day,

I just want to share this, many Host Family didn't accept Bro Aupair? why?

Me: I know that Its rare for the Host Family to choose Male because they think that they have enough experience in doing household chores and Taking care of kids but Its probably not

Some of Male have a ability to cope up the responsibility just like the usual girls do..

Dear Kenneth,

I think you already named the main reason: In most societies looking after kids is still a woman's job. So just like it's hard for women to get jobs in typical male domains, boys face prejudices when they want to become an au pair.
This kind of discrimination, which is based on (often unconscious) prejudices will still take quite some time to disappear, but in the meantime it's still not hopeless (I'm a female engineer, so I know ;-)).

I think you should try to convince host families that you are the perfect match not despite being male, but exactly because you are male. Make positive use of their prejudices (e.g. that boys are in general more sporty and stronger than girls, more ready to take up a challenge,...) and write them a very personal message why you think you would be the perfect "big brother" to their kids.

I cross my fingers for you that you soon can convince a family that a male au pair is just the perfect thing for them!
