Privacy Policy

1. Objective and responsible authority

This Privacy Policy clarifies the nature, scope and purpose of collecting and using data within connectAuPair and the websites, functions and services offered by connectAuPair, independent of the domains, systems, platforms and devices (e.g. desktops or portable devices) used to operate the service.

connectAuPair's service provider and the authority responsible for data privacy is connect Technologies GmbH, Fellbacher Weg 34, 89522 Heidenheim, Germany, (hereinafter referred to as ‘connectAuPair’, ‘we’ or ‘us’).

2. Essential information for data processing and security

connectAuPair collects, processes and uses personal user data only in compliance with the relevant data privacy provisions. This means user data is only used when legally permitted or where consent is present.

User data is only then disclosed to third parties if this is legally permitted or a user has consented to this disclosure. This is the case, for example, when disclosing data constitutes the compliance of contractual obligations to the user or if the data is requested by the responsible authorities, such as by law enforcement authorities.

connectAuPair takes organisational, contractual and technical security measures to ensure that the provisions of data privacy laws are complied with and, as a result, the data managed by connectAuPair is protected from accidental or intentional manipulations, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons. Full protection, for example, from criminals and hackers, unfortunately cannot be guaranteed, even with the most up-to-date security systems.

3. Collection, use and disclosure of personal data

Personal data, in addition to the use expressly named in this agreement, is used for the following purposes:

  • The provision and execution of services and user services of connectAuPair.
  • Ensuring effective customer services and technical support. Upon contacting connectAuPair, information is saved for the purpose of processing the request and for the event that follow-up questions arise.
  • Technical, community and business-related notifications in relation to connectAuPair’s offer.

connectAuPair only transfers user data to third parties if it is necessary for accounting purposes (e.g. to a payment service provider) or for other purposes, when these are necessary for connectAuPair to meet the contractual obligations towards users.

Upon contacting connectAuPair (e.g. by email or the messaging system), user information is saved for the purpose of processing the request and for the event that follow-up questions arise.

4. Registration and termination

Users essentially decide themselves which data they disclose about themselves and who can access it.

As part of user registration, the following mandatory data is collected:

  • User type (au pair, host family or agency)
  • Forename and surname (visible to other users)
  • Email address
  • Password (saved in encrypted form)
  • Postal address
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality (only for au pairs)
  • Languages

Postal addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers (if given) can only be accessed by connectAuPair employees.

Beyond the aforementioned information, each user decides themselves whether to provide further information.

Using profile settings, users can decide which data they want to provide to which user group. In addition, users can also edit the sharing of data with other users. All data that the user presents in their profile is visible in the standard setting, with the exception of the contact information in the area of social media (Skype, Facebook, etc.) as well as the contact information stipulated under Point 4.3.

In the case of successful termination, it’s up to users to secure their data before the end of the agreement. Fundamentally speaking, all user content is deleted. In exceptional cases, user content may remain on connectAuPair when it appears necessary in the interest of other users. This is the case, for example, with discussions, in order to make sure that conversations, tips or similar do not lose their meaning or are twisted. connectAuPair will anonymise the remaining user content, i.e. remove the former user’s name. Users can also request the deletion of individual content.

5. nearBy function

Users have the option of detecting host families or other au pairs near them by using the ‘nearBy function’.

The nearBy function shows other users one’s location with a maximum accuracy of 5 kilometres together with the compass direction. The exact location is only available for the user’s friends.

The function is disabled by default and can be activated in the user profile.

6. Collecting access data

connectAuPair collects data every time the server on which this service is based is accessed (known as server log files). Names of websites accessed, the file, date and time they were accessed, quantity of data transferred, the report of successful access, browser type and version, the user's operating system, referrer URL (the previously visited site), IP address and the requesting provider are included in this access data.

Without making reference to the user’s person or any other profile creation, connectAuPair uses the protocol data in accordance with legal provisions to statistically assess data for the purpose of operating, safeguarding and optimising connectAuPair. connectAuPair reserves the right however to verify the protocol data at a later date if there is justified suspicion of illegal use based on specific indications.

7. Inclusion of services and third-party content

Third-party content, such as YouTube videos or images from other websites, may be included in the online service.

This always requires the service provider of this content (hereinafter referred to as a ‘third-party service provider’) to read users' IP addresses. This is because they cannot send content to the browser of the respective user without an IP address. The IP address is therefore required in order to show this content.

We strive to only use such content whose service providers only use the IP addresses to deliver content.
